Will You Stay Open Enough to Learn?

Experience is valuable.
But it can quietly harden into certainty if we’re not careful.

Learning doesn’t stop when you become the leader.
If anything, leadership demands even more curiosity.

Growth starts with humility, the willingness to say,
“I might not have this right yet.”

Ask yourself:

1. Where am I relying on what’s worked before instead of what’s needed now?

2. What feedback do I resist hearing under pressure?

3. What assumptions am I making about people, performance, or problems?

Challenge:
Identify one belief you’ve held onto for years about leadership or success.
This month, test it rather than defend it.

Here is article from Forbes on how to learn lessons from the next generation.

Will You Model Change Before You Ask for It?

Change rarely fails because of strategy.
It fails because people don’t trust it.

Leaders who adapt early signal safety.
Leaders who resist quietly teach others to do the same.

If you want agility from others, it has to show up in you first.

Ask yourself:

1. How do I respond when plans shift or outcomes change?

2. Do I talk about change as an opportunity or a negative disruption?

3. What does my behaviour teach people about adaptability?

Challenge:
In your next meeting, name one thing you are changing or learning.
No justification. No spin. Just honesty.

Will You Create Space for Others to Learn Too?

People don’t learn when they feel judged.
They learn when they feel seen and enjoy their environment.

Strong leaders don’t just drive outcomes.
They protect the conditions where growth can happen.

Ask yourself:

1. Where do I rush people instead of developing them?

2. Do I reward learning, or only results?

3. How safe is it really to experiment around me?

Challenge:
Ask someone you lead or in your family the third question next week, don’t be defensive just listen.

Here is an insightful look at how sport develops leadership.
